Week 6 and 7 Recap: Family Visits

Hi friends.

I’ve been spending so much time offline while visiting friends and family. It’s been so nice getting to visit and slow down a little bit over the last month. We spent a few days in each place.

Over the course of the last few weeks, we spent time in Cape Cod, Rhode Island, Boston, and Connecticut.

When we were in Cape Cod, we visited with Ben and Marie, Travis’s Godparents. The weather unfortunately was pretty rainy while we were there but we definitely made the most out of it. When it was drier weather, we ate out a few times at some local spots. Additionally, we went to the beach, spotted a wild seal, and took a walk along the canal. It’s just beautiful out there and the scent of the air by the water is my absolute favorite. Both Ben & Marie are amazing cooks. They even made us lobster & fried fish one night that they had trapped and caught themselves! When it was a little rainy, hours flew by catching up with them about travel, books, family and life. It’s always fun whenever we can spend some time with them.

In Johnston, Rhode Island, we stopped in to see Greg, Liz, and Landon – Travis’s brother, sister-in-law, our nephew. They had just moved to the area about a month and a half ago from Brooklyn. We loved getting to see their new set up and check out some of the places they like nearby. While everyone was working during the day, we all hung out after in their backyard. We sat around their fire pit, made s’mores, and caught up on life. We haven’t had a lot of time to play or hang out with Landon before this visit. Living further away during the pandemic made it difficult to visit. It was special getting to see how much he has grown and getting to play with him.

We also spent some time with my Aunt Catie & her boyfriend Moss. They live in a quiet spot of Boston. It was fun getting to see the city with them, especially seeing parts of it we never experienced before. We went over to SOWA Open Market, which has a ton of stalls with food, jewelry, and art all around that you can explore. We checked out some art galleries and a huge thrift market. The next day, we spent some time with Moss’s mom and went to a yacht club for dinner and drinks. We were right on the water with an awesome view of Boston Harbor. We walked around the area for a while and got to know Moss & his mom a little bit better.

Coming back around to Connecticut, we decided to visit with a few more friends. First, we went back down to Guilford. Basically, it’s as close to a Stars Hollow vibe you can get. It was rainy, but we were able to stay overnight at Bishop’s Orchards Farm Market & Winery. We spent some time on the town green the next day. It was beautiful and had a ton of people out and about and using the space. Next, we visited with Sean & Nicole up in Andover, CT and spent a night hanging out with them & their two amazing pups. Violet had so much fun running around with Pepper Jack, while Webster preferred PepperJack wasn’t around at all haha. I ended the week with a girl’s dinner in West Hartford with some high school friends.

It’s been a fun two weeks getting to see so many people we love. As much as I love visiting with everyone, the introvert in me also gets a little “social’d” out. I could tell by the end of these two weeks, my energy level significantly dropped. We were able to spend most of Saturday at Lake Waramaug State park in Kent, CT. It definitely helped to recharge to social batteries so we will be good for the next week!

This upcoming week, we have a few more days in Connecticut visiting friends and family, before we start making our way west. It’s also officially my birthday week! I turn 28 on July 1st and am excited to hopefully have some good weather and spend it somewhere new.
